Pro Home Buyer Tip #2
When you begin your search for your new home be sure to write out a list of your top five must haves. This list should not include things you are flexible on or things that you can consider based on the home. This list should include five items that you must have in your new home. These items are the deal breakers for you and you would not even consider buying a home without them. These can vary from person to person and for couples as well.
If you are purchasing a home with your family in mind or with a significant other it is imperative to discuss this list with them as well. Often times your lists will match and sometimes you and your partner will need to have a conversation about the things that are the most important in your new home.
Having this conversation on the front end will save not only time and money but also some frustration. It is important that all the decision makers for the home are comfortable with the list before you get your heart set on a home.
Some examples of deal breaker items my clients have had are:
-Central air conditioning - fenced yard- school districts- garage spaces- minimum number of bedrooms - number of bathrooms - and style of home.
Always remember as well that this list will be specific to you and your needs. So take a few minutes and think about your top five things. Write them down and have a conversation with your Realtor as well! They need to have this information so you do not waste time looking at homes that will simply not work for you.
