This is a very common question and many soon to be buyers are looking for fast and friendly information on what they will need to start on a pre-qualification letter!
Here are the most common needs a lender will have to get you on track for purchasing your new home:
-W2's for the last two years
-1040 Federal Tax returns for the last two years
-2 Months of pay stubs for anyone looking to be on the mortgage
-A copy of your drivers license
-A copy of your social security card
This is a snap shot of your finances and a lender will use this info to let you know what you could qualify for. They will pull your credit and look into how much debt you have. It is important to understand that you need to share as much as you can with your lender from a financial perspective as you move forward in the process. You do not want to fall in love with a home you cannot buy because you left out information on your finances!
