Remember to connect with a lender early. This is one of the most important and nerve racking steps of the process. I know sharing all your financial information with a stranger can be hard and sometimes kind of emotional. Remember though, lenders have seen it all! If you have credit card debt, student loans, low savings or all of the above, just have an honest conversation with a qualified lender and they can help you make the best financial decision for you. Also, you need to know where you stand when heading out to interview Realtors and look at homes. Know where you need to be with the money so you don't set yourself up for difficulties later.
Then, get out there are interview some realtor. Yes, I said interview them! You are hiring someone to help you find and purchase a home. Make sure they are hard working and have great references. You have the ability to work with a realtor who will work for you. When you are making one of the most important financial decisions of your like you want to make sure the team you line up is 100% ready to win for you!
Now, start your search and set your expectations with your Realtor. Talk to them about what you are looking for and set your needs and wants together. Make your lists of must haves and start looking at homes that fit your search. At this point don't be afraid to modify what you are looking for. Sometimes whats available may not fit perfectly but, talk with your realtor about your criteria and modifications they can suggest to get you the most house for your money. They know the market and can help you select a home that is the best fit for you!
